Q: Should I buy a Toyota after the recall?
My family owns both a 1993 corolla and a 2000 Sienna and they have been extremely reliable over the years. Our 17 year old corolla still works flawlessly. I know Toyota's reputation for quality...but the month I decide to buy one...theres a recall..what are the odds -_-...I was going for either the Corolla XRS or the Civic EXL..and the Corolla with the right options..really appealed to me, plus I already had one so I knew its longevity. Honda also has a great rep. and obliterates the corolla when it comes to the interior. I was fluctuating between these cars but now I'm almost surely considering a civic.
But the CIVIC was also THE MOST STOLLEN CAR of 2008....that makes me think. Your opinion? which should I go for?
The accelerator problem..may in turn be a problem in the electronic control system according to consumer groups...that's wuts really sketchy..Toyota hasn't even verified the actual prob yet :S
I've considered others and narrowed down to two, I like japanese cars and am not planning to change that
A: i would buy a honda or a FORD FUSION but if you are looking for a foriegn car considering the recall i'd buy a honda right now

A: You can buy a brand new Toyota, if used then be careful. Why I say brand new because no one has driven them. you will be the first one so the stick gas pedal problem won't be much of an issue to you because your car is Brand NEW.
Remember this all car companies make recall, its how they improve themselves for future generations, if you didn't know Honda's ball joint come off and it becomes an instant death situation.
We have 3 Toyotas and are over 45K.....we have to carry more burden about the recall and we still love them, we're not trading them for anything. Overall if maintained right and by BEING GENTLE TO THE GAS PEDAL, you won't have that problem.
Don't hate Toyota (or any other foreign cars) for this problem....their doing the best they can to keep their customers safe. After this mess Toyota promises more safety on their future vehicles.
Yes Civic will have high insurance because they're easy to break into. And I hear that Civic is slightly expensive to maintain. The Interior of the civic gets scratched very easily and once an accident with the civic, expect expensive bills, not with Toyota.

A: Now is a GREAT time to buy one. Demand will be down, so you may have some wiggle room on negotiation; and they already know how to fix the accelerator, so you will get one without the recall problem (at least, the dealer can make the factory approved fix before selling it to you).
Be sure to get one that is made in the United States!
